Government is to introduce a new educational policy to dedicate more time for school education. Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardana told news.lk that all secondary schools set up under the 1000 school project will have classes till 3.00 pm.
The government recently had taken a policy decision to establish 1000 Secondary Schools Island wide with all required facilities needed for school education. Two such schools have already been set up.
In this region Sri Lanka is the only country where schools close at 1. 30 pm. In all other countries in the region schools close at 3.30 or 4.00 PM. Today in this era in several instances both the parents are employed. When the children return from school by 2.30 they will be alone at home till the return of their parents. The incidences of exploitation and child abuse have been reported in several parts of the country.
“I have decided to bring revolutionary changes in the spheres of education; and one such change is that in future all secondary schools will conduct clases till 3.00 pm.” The minister told news .lk
Meanwhile minister dismissed the allegations that the ministry entrusted the maintenance of schools to parents. He said the government
