President Mahinda Rajapaksa, on his visit to Kandy today (18), met Ven. Thibbatuwave Sri Sidhartha Sumangala Nayaka thero of the Malwatta Chapter, iafter observing religious rites at Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy
Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbakaduwa, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilangadala and the Chief of Staff President’s Office Gamini Senarath were also present.
The main purpose for President's visit to Kandy was to inspect the Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium which is one of the venues for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. The first One Day International match at the venue will be played between New Zealand and Pakistan on 8 March 2011.

The President also met the U.P.F.A. candidates for the upcoming Provincial Council election, at President’s House Kandy.
