SL, DR establish formal diplomatic relations

The Memorandum of Understanding establishing diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Dominican Republic was signed by Carlos Morales Troncoso, Minister of External Affairs of the Dominican Republic who is in India on an official visit, and High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in India, Prasad Kariyawasam at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi.
Sri Lanka and Dominican Republic will shortly designate concurrent Ambassadors to represent the two countries, the Sri Lankan High Commission in New Delhi said. With the formalization of diplomatic ties, already existing relationships between Sri Lanka and Dominican are expected to enhance further.
Minister Troncoso, praising the skills of Sri Lankan employees said that already more than 200 professionals from Sri Lanka are employed in the fields of chartered accountancy, hotel industry and organic agricultural industry in his country. Sri Lankan High Commissioner briefed the Minister on the development projects and trade & investment potentials of Sri Lanka.

Minister Troncoso and High Commissioner Kariyawasam expressed confidence that the bilateral economic cooperation would increase as a result of establishing formal diplomatic relations.
