USD 25 M Chinese assistance for Uva Udanaya Project

The Government of China has agreed to provide a credit facility of US $ 24,928,046.88 through the Exim Bank of China to meet 85 percent cost of Lighting Sri Lanka Uva Province Project under the Uva Udanaya.
The proceeds of this facility will be utilized to provide 100 percent electricity coverage in the Moneragala and Badulla Districts which will in turn improve the economic and social conditions of the Uva Province people.
On a proposal made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa Cabinet approval was granted to enter into this loan agreement with the Exim Bank of China. The balance 15 percent of the total project cost of US $ 29,327,113.98 will be financed by the Government of Sri Lanka.
Several new power sub stations will be constructed to transmit power in these two districts covering over 600 km.
