Those who intend to build houses are to be provided housing loans by the National Housing Development Authority. The government has allocated Rs. 800 Million to provide these loans which will be given to low-income, middle –income and high- income families.
In addition, State Banks; Bank of Ceylon, Peoples Bank and National Savings Bank have also allotted Rs.4500 million to provide loans to at least 20,000 families in the country.
These steps have been taken to build 60, 000 houses island-wide this year.
Under this programme the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities has also planned to construct two houses in each Grama Niladhari division annually in order to achieve the “Jana Sevana” housing targets.
