British Council and the HSBC are to offer Sri Lankan postgraduates, undergraduates and students aged 18 to 30 years representing universities, private higher education institutions, technical and vocational institutions and professional training bodies in Sri Lanka with Youth Enterprise Awards (YEA) 2011 which is a business plan contest. The objective is to aspire students to start their own businesses.
The young entrepreneurs can apply under the categories - fashion design, architecture, crafts, tourism, information technology, hospitality and telecommunication, medical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, engineering, agriculture, renewable energy and open categopry.
The winners will be mentored by professionals for six months and also be given Rs,100,000 in seed capital to start their projects.
IDEATORS – Next Generation Entrepreneurs is a popular reality TV enterprise competition organised by the British Council that has created mass-scale awareness about the importance of entrepreneurship education. Graduate Enterprise Challenge organised in partnership with SLASSCOM is another contest which aims at developing ICT Entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka.
The HSBC Youth Enterprise Awards are designed to tap into and nurture the rich talent in this country, enabling Sri Lanka’s next generation entrepreneurs to take full advantage of today’s abundant opportunities.
