Ferial appointed to National Institute of Education

Former Minister Mrs. Ferial Ashraff has been appointed to the seven - member Board of the National Institute of Education (NIE) which has the authority to revise school curricula.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane has made this appointment mainly considering her experience in the teacher service in the past.

Mrs. Ashraff wife former minister and the Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress late Mr. M.H.M. Ashraff held the portfolio minister of Housing and Construction in the previous government of President Chandrika Bandaranaike.

Prof. Abeyratne Bandara,   the dean of the Management Faculty of Srijayewardenepura University has been appointed as director general of the NIE. The other members of the Board of the NIE are Prof. S. Chandrasekaram (the former dean of the Education Faculty of the Colombo University), Prof. Arjuna de Silva (Medical Faculty, Kelaniya), Prof. Mudiyanse Dissanayake, Prof. Roland Abeypala, Dr. A.T. Piyasiri and Attorney at Law Manjula Makumbura.

The ex-officio members from the ministries of Higher Education and Finance and Planning are yet to be nominated
