Colombo will be the venue for the 15th session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission Annual Meetring. The event is to be held at the Gall Face Hotel from March 14 to 22.
The Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Dr. Rajitha Senarathna said the advisory committee that met in Colombo last Friday has passed seven resolutions to act jointly to face the developments in the fisheries sector.
The Minister said that the international recognition of Sri Lanka's fisheries sector was weak during the war time, but the situation has changed now and the holding of the conference of Indian Ocean Tuna Commission itself is evidence of the international recognition Sri Lanka has gained in the fisheries sector.
The Indian Ocean Tuna Commission is an intergovernmental organization mandated to manage tuna and tuna-like species in the Indian Ocean and adjacent seas.
