Market sources said that following flooding of the Economic Centre with vegetables from the North there has been a drop in prices in the range of 20% and above.
The Economic Centre has also taken measures to protect the Northern vegetable supplies from the Middlemen who cheat them and attempt to impose artificial prices.
Reports also indicate that there is a remarkable reduction in the wholesale vegetable prices since last week at Ratmalana, Narahenpita, Nuwara Eliya and Meegoda Economic Centres as well.
The consumers point out that although the vegetable prices increased due to rain and other natural disasters the intermediary traders increased the prices of vegetables through various mechanisms.
