Rs. 850 million to provide relief to Flood victims

A provision of over Rs. 350 million has already been released by the General Treasury to the District Secretaries through the Ministry of Disaster Management and another Rs. 500 Million has been already allocated to provide relief to flood affected people in the country.
Due to the unfavuorable weather condition affected the island, the heaviest damage has occurred in the Batticaloa district and Rs. 100 million has been granted by the General Treasury to provide reliefs for the people in that area.
In addition to the above Rs. 50.5 million for Ampara, Rs. 43 million for Trincomalee, Rs. 33 million for Vauniya and Rs. 23.8 million for Polonnaruwa districts have been granted.
Rs. 17.1 million for Mannar, Rs. 6.4 million for Mulativ, Rs. 5 million for Kilinochchi and Rs. 1.6 million for Jaffna districts have been granted to provide relief for the disaster stricken.
Rs. 10.5 million for Mathale, Rs. 4.5 million for Nuwaraeliya and Rs. 3.8 million for Kandy Districts have already been released to provide reliefs for the people living in Central hills of the Island exposed to highly hazardous conditions owing to the extensive pouring and earth slips.
Rs. 23 million has been granted for Badulla district whilst Rs. 3.2 million has been granted for Monaragala district to facilitate the damage stricken. In addition to the above one million each has been granted for Matara, Hambantota and Kegalle districts.
As such, a total provision of over Rs. 350 has been granted to the district secretaries by the General Treasury to provide expeditious reliefs for the disaster stricken.
In addition to the aforesaid provision granted to facilitate the disaster stricken general public, another Rs. 210 million has been released by the General Treasury to grant the disaster stricken public servants a salary advance loan.
All the financial requirements requested by the Ministry of Disaster Management and District Secretaries have been fulfilled by now by the General Treasury and it has taken further steps to allocate provision in future on such requests of the Districts Secretaries and the Ministry of Disaster Management.
