Sri Lanka to develop domestic airports
As several areas in the country have been declared as tourist resort zones, the authorities consider developing domestic airports. With the crushing of LTTE after thirty years of war has brought the country an unprecedented surge in tourism industry. There was an increase in the tourist arrivals in the country by over 50 percent last year registering the number of tourist arrival to over 625,000.
This year the visit Sri Lanka 2011 program launched with the dawn of 2011 targets to tourist arrivals to hit well over 700,000.
Accordingly Domestic Airports at Ratmalana, Koggala, Ampara, China-Bay and Palaali in Jaffna will be developed considering the rapid growth of tourist traffic.
Sri Lanka tourism has also stepped into cater to the domestic tourism as well. A comprehensive plan for accommodation of domestic tourists is underway now.
