Injuries caused by fireworks on New Year’s day has dropped compared to last year said Dr. Hector Weerasinghe, Director of National Hospital. He emphasized that the number of accidents caused by fireworks have come down mainly due to media campaigns carried out during the past six years on incidents occurred due to fireworks.
Dr. Weerasinghe further added that only 11 cases were treated at the National Hospital for injuries from fireworks while altogether 322 persons were treated for injuries caused due to fireworks, road accidents, quarrels and other domestic incidents on New Year’s day.
